Using jointing paste as a binder, before and during the process, wind thin sections of hemp string around the thread in the opposite direction to that used to insert the thread into the fitting. Experience will determine how much hemp to apply, which should be sufficient to be able to screw the thread into the female fitting with a wrench or spanner such that it only really starts to become tight as most of the thread is engaged in the fitting. Tidy the joint by removing any surplus hemp string and jointing paste.
